This narrowed the field immediately. Copilot - which gets recommended constantly - is iOS only. That ruled it out for me straight away.
The Android options after Mint are roughly: YNAB (works on Android, costs $15/month, heavy system), Monarch Money (works on Android, costs $10/month, good sync), PocketGuard (Android, free tier is pretty limited), a bunch of smaller apps with varying quality.
I tested a few on my Pixel. Monarch worked well. The bank sync connected on the first try which wasn't always the case with other apps. The interface is clean and the Android app doesn't feel like an afterthought the way some finance apps do. Still costs money though.
PocketGuard was fine for a week. The upgrade prompts got annoying.
I ended up on DrakeAI which is Android native. No bank sync - you type expenses - so it's a different approach than Mint was. But it's built properly for Android, offline capable, and genuinely free. The manual entry I was dreading turned out to be less of a burden than expected when entry is literally one line of text.
If you want sync and are okay paying: Monarch is the best Android option I tried. If you want free and can do manual: DrakeAI. If you're on iOS there are more choices including Copilot which gets strong reviews.
The Android landscape is just a bit thinner than iOS for personal finance apps. It's gotten better, but Copilot being iOS-only is still a real gap that hasn't been filled in the same way.
