Best Mint Alternative for International Users

Mint was US-only so for international users the shutdown was more like... fine, we were already looking for something else.

The actual problem is that the whole category of personal finance apps is mostly built for US bank accounts. YNAB, Monarch, all the big ones - they technically have multi-currency in some form but it's clearly not what they're optimized for. I tried connecting a European bank account in one of them once and gave up after 20 minutes of it not finding my institution.

I spent a while with Spendee which has better international support than most. Okay app. Still doesn't support all my banks.

What I use now is DrakeAI which gets around the whole bank connection problem by not having one. You just type what you spent - "groceries 45 EUR" or "lunch 280 baht" - and it logs it. Works in any currency because you're just writing text. Idk if that's cheating but it solves the problem I actually had.

The thing I miss is not having to think about logging. With Mint, even when it worked badly, the transactions were just there. Now I have to log things and sometimes I forget, especially in the first day or two of a trip when I'm busy. The data from heavy travel weeks is probably less complete than quiet home weeks.

But for normal international life where you want to track spending across currencies without fighting your tools - it's been fine. Not exciting, just functional.
