Mint Is Gone: 7 Alternatives That Actually Work in 2025

When Mint shut down I did what most people did - went looking for a replacement that worked the same way. Automatic bank sync, clean dashboard, free. Found out that combination basically doesn't exist anymore.

Here's what I actually tried and what I think about each one.

YNAB is the most recommended. It's also $14.99 a month, which is more than I spend on several other subscriptions combined. It's genuinely good software. The zero-based budgeting approach works well for some people. For me it felt like more overhead than I wanted. Didn't stick with it past the trial.

Monarch Money is similar pricing range. More polished than YNAB in some ways, better for couples who want to share finances. Still $10-15/month depending on the plan. Good app, just not free.

Copilot is the one design nerds recommend. iOS only though - if you're on Android it's not an option. It's also subscription-based.

Empower (formerly Personal Capital) has a free tier that's genuinely useful for investment tracking. Less useful for day-to-day expense management, which was the core Mint use case for most people.

PocketGuard has a free version that's limited but functional. Worth trying if you want something lightweight.

Simplifi by Quicken is decent, around $3-4/month if you catch it on sale. Closer to the Mint experience than most.

DrakeAI is what I ended up on. No bank connection - you type expenses manually - so it's not a direct Mint replacement if you loved the automatic sync. But it's genuinely free, works on Android, and the manual entry turns out to be faster than I expected. I catch cash and Venmo stuff that Mint always missed.

The honest answer is there's no perfect free Mint replacement with full bank sync. The economics of that model stopped working. Pick the paid app that fits your budget, or accept that you're switching to something functionally different.
